So much of our knowledge and learning is passed on. Whether it happens formally through the education system or informally passed on from those around us. It includes generational and societal knowledge like our grandmother’s recipes and even our language. Unsurprisingly, depending on what career we go into go into, the people around us provide insights to help and guide us. Depending on the community around us, there will be varying strengths in that support network.
Hence, as I contemplated the creation of Career Sistas, one of the most important values was role models. That does not mean we need to hold people to impossible standards of perfections, but rather to aspire to be our best, to achieve our best, we need to know what is out there and what are the paths to get there. Otherwise, we might never even consider that option.
Announcement – Launch of Podcast – Stories by Career Sistas
Accordingly, focused on that vision, one of the first ventures of Career Sistas is Stories by Career Sistas. A podcast where I talk to different women learn about their career and what they learnt along the way. I hope to share stories that resonate, inspire, educate and motivate. Real stories by real women that reflect the amazing diversity of our world, or at least the corners where I have been fortunate to meet people. Although I hope episode by episode that sphere expands.
In the first batch of episodes we recorded I have already spoken to an amazing mix of women. Some are women I have known for decades along with women that I only met a few weeks ago, but I knew they had a great story and insights to share. I have spoken to women in fields ranging from corporate law to medical research and entrepreneurship in all it wonderful forms. Some of have been working in their current fields for years, others have pivoted across different areas. Some have moved from traditional roles to portfolio careers or entrepreneurship.
The key theme that came up the most was around people. Whether that involved mentorship or sponsorship, be it community or networking. One of the central messages in the first episodes was you can’t do it on your own, whether that be in a corporate career or as an entrepreneur and everything in between. Of course there were lot of other great pieces of advice, nuggets of wisdom, and stories that even when I have known the guests for years, surprised me. The word cloud visual gives you a hint of what is to come, but you will have to join us to find out more.
The first episode is now live! Our first episode is a really enjoyable one, with something for everyone. Our guest has worked for large corporates, but she has also made a significant pivot in her career, going on to work with other entrepreneurs. Hence, she has seen multiple perspectives as a professional, both from her career and from working with others.
Join us as we embark on this new journey and be part of a community that uplifts and empowers women in their professional lives. Also, don’t forget to tell a friend, and follow-us on social media for the latest episodes.
